The Adapters page lists all available network adapters in a table and allows you to choose which one(s) you'd like to choose for monitoring and counting the traffic passing through it. Check the checkbox against an adapter and click Apply. If your computer has a dial-up connection or is connected to the LAN via an Ethernet adapter, you will only have one adapter in the list. You will need to select it. If your computer serves as the Internet gateway for the local network or has more than one network adapter, you will need to select the adapter(s) that you would like CommTraffic to monitor. Please refer to the Advanced Network Features chapter for more information on configuring the program for monitoring several adapters simultaneously. If you would like to count the Internet traffic of the entire LAN segment, including the traffic of the machine that CommTraffic is running on, you will need to tell the program to monitor the network adapter through which the connection to the Internet is established. In the case where your goal is to monitor the traffic of the computers on the LAN and obtain the detailed statistics for each of them, you will need to select the network adapter that is used to connect the CommTraffic computer to the local network. For dial-up and VPN adapters please select WAN miniport adapter. Important note: If you installed a new network adapter after installing CommTraffic in Windows 98/ME, your adapter might not show up in the list. Please uninstall CommTraffic, reboot, and then reinstall it. To configure an adapter, select it in the list and click on the Configure button. The configuration dialog consist of three pages: the Provider Detection page that allows to set a traffic division mode according to the selected provider(s); the Provider List page that contains the list of providers that varies according to the mode selected in the Provider Detection page, the Traffic Rules button, and the Advanced page. The Traffic Rules button allows you to set traffic division rules. If the Select Provider or Multiple providers mode is chosen, it is possible to create a separate rule set for every provider selected. Some network adapters cannot operate in promiscuous mode; if you use such an adapter, please check the Use non-promiscuous mode box. This option must always be selected for wireless adapters. |
